Upholds Arizona voting law. Strikes down California disclosure law.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court issued its final decisions of this current session for the cases of Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee and Americans for Prosperity Foundation v. Bonta.
In the case of Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee, the court ruled 6-to-3 in favor of Arizona Attorney General Brnovich. The ruling upheld two Arizona voting provisions. The first provision throws out a vote cast in the wrong precinct, the second bans collecting other people’s ballots for delivery to state election boards.
Americans for Prosperity Foundation v. Bonta also had the court split 6-to-3. The ruling struck down the state of California’s requirement that charities and other nonprofits that operate in the state must disclose the names and addresses of their largest donors. The majority opinion held that the law violated First Amendment rights.
